The Role of Midstream Services in the Energy Supply Chain

June 30, 2024

In the energy industry, getting oil and gas products from production to downstream for processing involves a complicated supply chain. Midstream services are essential, linking the upstream production with the downstream refining and distribution. These services include materials supply, transportation, storage, and other logistics, ensuring customer’s materials arrive accurately and on time.

CTAP Midstream Division

CTAP’s Midstream Division acts as the middleman in the oil and gas industry. It connects the production sites with the refineries. Their services include:

  • Materials: Providing essential components like line pipes, valves, fittings, and flanges.
  • Transportation: Moving materials from manufacturers to job sites, whether to a lay-down yard or towed to the pipeline right of way.
  • Storage: Holding materials until they are needed at the sites.

What Materials Does CTAP Midstream Provide?

CTAP Midstream provides a range of essential materials for their customer’s operations. These include line pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, and all other components for midstream requirements.

  • Line Pipe – all outside diameters (ODs) and wall thicknesses, grade B through X70
  • Valves – ball, gate, globe, and check valves
  • Fittings – carbon/high yield, Grade B through Y70
  • Flanges – all grades, types, and pressure classes

Transportation: The Supply Chain’s Lifeline

Transportation is one of the most important midstream services. Moving midstream materials requires strong, reliable networks to handle large amounts and ensure timely delivery. CTAP Midstream partners with TerraTech Services to reduce waiting times and ensure that pipeline and fabrication projects always have the needed materials. TerraTech offers 17 strategically located service centers across all major US basins. TerraTech’s transportation methods include:

  • Railways: Good for transporting bulk products, cost savings, and is environmentally friendly.
  • Trucking: Offers flexibility and is ideal for shorter distances and final deliveries to drilling sites.

Storage: Managing Supplies

Storage facilities, like our TerraTech service centers, are key to balancing supply and demand for midstream materials. TerraTech offers seamless access to pipeline installations and fabrication shops, enabling us to swiftly manage any supply chain disruptions. They ensure CTAP’s materials are properly handled and maintained in excellent condition, with ample reserves ready for use when needed.

CTAP’s Midstream services are crucial to the midstream supply chain. By offering high-quality materials, efficient transportation, and reliable storage, CTAP ensures a smooth flow of midstream products from production to job sites. This seamless operation supports both the upstream and downstream sectors, contributing significantly to the success of the oil and gas industry.

Building on the excellent work of CTAP’s OCTG distribution team, our Midstream Division provides the next set of materials, providing our customers with a thorough, full-service solution in each project.
